Global Total Retail Software and SaaS Market 2022 Report

Global Retail Software Market

The global software market (software, cloud, and on-premise maintenance) will grow by 76% between 2019 and 2024, from $71.0 billion to $124.7 billion, according to the researcher.

The global market for SaaS/Cloud-based solutions will grow 242 percent from $19.3 billion in 2019 to $66.0 billion in 2024, according to the researcher.

The year 2022 is likely to be one of the most divided in recent memory for retail software. Order management, E-Commerce, mobile POS, touchless payment, and other areas that have been shown to be key technologies in a COVID-impacted economy have had very good years.

Vendors in the food, drug, and mass merchant spaces have had a terrific year (by most accounts). Vendors in the broad retail arena have had a difficult year, while those who primarily assist the hospitality industry have had a particularly difficult year. Pizza restaurants and other fast food places with drive-thrus and a good delivery system have been a bright spot in the hospitality industry.

Those providers who mainly rely on SaaS-based solutions have fared well, as they were able to meet COVID's requirements. This year has been hard for suppliers who rely mostly on on-premise solutions, since SaaS-based solutions are becoming more and more popular.

Despite these obstacles, the retail software market is predicted to grow slightly in 2020, with a major increase and recovery in 2021. The growth of retail in emerging nations; enterprise retailers re-architecting their systems to support unified commerce (systems that enable the acquisition, sale, and delivery of items regardless of channel); and the emergence of cloud computing are three significant drivers for this expansion (along with its cost efficiencies).

Since 1996, the analyst has been giving advice to both retailers and vendors about how retail IT is changing and what the best strategy is for it.

Through firsthand consulting experience in this quest, the analyst has accumulated a vast amount of primary and secondary source data. Offerings like our Sophia Data Service, The Worldview IT Sizing Forecast Model, and special research projects have all been developed and released using this ever-growing knowledge base.

Highlights

This report is part of the Retail Executive Advisory Program's Insight Market View series of research (REAP). This study looks at the total retail software and SaaS market across 13 retail and hospitality sector segments.

The projections for software licenses, software maintenance, and software-as-a-Service will be provided to readers of this report. In addition, the market's size is broken down into Line of Business Categories, which range from Business Intelligence to eCommerce to Merchandising and Supply Chain to Marketing to Store Systems; there are a total of ten LOB categories.

Following that, the analyst ranks combined software and SaaS, software and maintenance, and then just SaaS on its own.

The analyst then goes over market trends, drivers, and impediments.

The Insight Market View Map then places vendors in a 3-dimensional quadrant view against one another. Someone in the upper right quadrant is a market leader as well as a leader in growth, innovation, and unified commerce coverage. The analyst's approach is unique in that it includes a third dimension of market share scale, allowing you to see not only who is in which quadrant, but also how strong they are. This is perfect for executives who are figuring out where they stand in the market and thinking about competitors and possible acquisitions.

Finally, the researcher presents revenue market profiles for the top 15 software vendors. Total sales, revenues by hardware, software, SaaS, and services, revenues by location, and revenues by line of business category are all included in each profile. The profiles also include information on mergers and acquisitions, as well as major clients.

The fact that this study is based on a sophisticated and objective research paradigm sets it apart and makes it more rigorous. It allows vendors, retailers, and analysts to see who are the true retail software leaders; true software market rankings; who is leading in the rapidly growing software-as-a-service market; and which vendors are leading in sales, innovation, and market reach; and who can implement a complete unified commerce approach to retail.
